The Putt Putt boat is launched. Things went according to plan…..well, almost. She floated off the trailer and the engine started with no problems. Lisa and I putted around McKinley marina then headed for the mooring. Wait, the bilge pump stopped working! The hull was still soaking and swelling so water was coming in pretty fast. We headed for the dock to make repairs.

Lisa stayed with the boat trying to bail with a tiny hand pump while I went to the ship’s store in the Round House. They were closing the cash registers but said they would help. A new bilge pump was hanging on the wall and $41 later it was in my hand as I was running down the docks.

The new pump was the exact model of our failed one. Twisting some wires together and connecting the hose was all it took to empty the flooded bilges. Water was over the floorboards!

All is well and Putt Putt floats!
